Choosing an Indoor Fountain for Your
Home
A hot new trend is decorating with a natural water fountain in
your home. Before venturing into this vast new decorating style, a little preparation is essential. You need to
determine what areas of your home will benefit the most and how to accentuate your current décor with the many
offerings available.
An indoor water fountain can add a
natural aura to any room and serves many healthy benefits as well. The waterfall sounds mimic that of nature,
which can soothe and relax, at the same time adding moisture to the indoor air and minimizing potential dust
particles and indoor air pollutants. The natural white noise effect created by the falling water also helps
maintain the tranquil environment by masking out annoying sounds. Of course, an obvious benefit is the beauty a
waterfall exudes, through its intrinsic appeal of water cascading over gorgeous natural stone or
glass.
There are three primary types of
indoor water fountains, and each has a distinctive and stylish elegance. Matching that elegance with your room
will require an understanding of these types and what decorating goal you wish to accomplish.
Tabletop Fountains
This type of fountain is small enough to fit on any table, counter, or even a
desk. One of the more common designs consists of a bowl less than 10” in diameter that will sit on a table or a
small stand. Some tabletop models have an assortment of sculpted crystals, like quartz, or colorful gemstones as
the primary focus, where the water will flow over or around. Other tabletop fountains have a more contemporary
look.
An advantage is the mobility of
these fountains, as you can easily relocate them to any room in the house. However, their small size minimizes
the natural effects of air ionization and white noise. You will not be able to reap the benefits of this type
from another room, or in a large open area. The tabletop units are best for small rooms, on the nightstand
beside the bed, on a desk that you work at, or as a centerpiece in a family room or kitchen.
The tabletop water fountain is also
available as a misting or fogging unit. This is ideal for a small room in place of a humidifier, or a room that
would require a little extra ambience. The billowing mist adds a mystical quality to any
room.
Wall Fountains
Unlike a tabletop fountain, the Wall
fountain is more of a statement to a room. Available in virtually any style, you can redecorate an entire room
based on the style of wall fountain you wish to choose. This type of indoor water fountain can be as small as a
1 ½ foot square frame that hangs on a wall, to as large as an entire wall from floor to ceiling.
A wall water fountain offers the
most in elegance, as the relaxing sounds and healthful air purity can easily encompass an entire room. When
choosing a wall fountain, you can select from classical to contemporary styles with backdrops of glass, acrylic,
brass, copper, or even marble slate. Your décor can also capitalize on the variety of lighting available, to set
a specific mood in each room.
Floor Fountains
A floor fountain offers several
advantages not found in the wall mount or tabletop variety; specifically they have the ability to enchant guests
with its 3-D effect. A floor water fountain can be used in a large room, and situated so that the falls are
visible from both sides.
This type of fountain has a box-like
reservoir and is freestanding usually in heights up to 8 feet. Many manufacturers offer a large variety of
patterns, colors, or logos, etched into the backdrop, or if you prefer the backdrop can be as simple as plain
glass or colored stone. The floor fountain’s freestanding nature gives designers a bit more flexibility in
creativity than with that of wall fountains. The variety of materials and design styles is tremendous. However,
the floor fountain does require taking up some floor space; therefore, it is best utilized in open areas or
large rooms.
When choosing an indoor fountain,
the possibilities are virtually limited only by your imaginative decorating touch. You have a unique opportunity
to combine the spectacular beauty of a living waterfall to your home decor to add elegance, healthy air quality,
and stress-relieving white noise. An Indoor water fountain offers an exceptional chance to enhance your living
quarters and impress your guests.
